New Scholarship in Liberia for Davidetta
We’re excited to start funding a new scholar in Monrovia, Liberia. Davidetta Forkpah was recommended to us by Sister Barbara Brillant. Sister Barbara, who is the president of Mother Patern College of Health Sciences, is a connection Cheryl was able to make though a Journalist colleague she met while covering the Ebola outbreak in Liberia in 2014-2015.
After reaching out and sharing more about our organization, mission, and scholarship program, Sister Barbara helped nominate a student in her program, who was facing financial stress and at risk of dropping out of college because she didn’t have the resources to enroll.
Davidetta, a student in the Social Work Department, had just concluded her first academic year. Her registration is in August and classes will start again in September.
“I have found out that this scholarship will be a great opportunity in achieving my educational and professional goals.
I am a Liberian, I live with my mother who is a single parent and uneducated. I grew in a very lonely home, and growing up as a child, my mother had to sacrifice all of her time and resources to send my siblings and I to school. I am the oldest of the three of us. My dream is to become a professional person, to make a difference in my world. My career goal is to become a social worker that will enable me to explore my profession to help deliver services to people whether poor or rich.”
-Davidetta (written in her scholarship application letter)
We are happy to provide financial assistance so she can continue her education as a sophomore. The cost for her to complete her education is about $3,600 total, which comes to roughly $900 a year. You can contribute to our funds for her education costs by donating.
