New Scholarship for N’tuma

My friends Bob and Betty Press were serving as Fulbright scholars in Sierra Leone. I first met Bob and Betty when they were living in Nairobi, Kenya. Bob was a staff reporter for The Christian Science Monitor and Betty worked as a photojournalist.

I knew Bob and Betty were working with local school children and I asked if they might know of a young woman who wanted to pursue a college education. Through their connections, we met N’tuma Bangura.

Let us introduce you to N'tuma Bangura, 22, from Freetown, Sierra Leone. We are proud to offer Ms. Bangura a scholarship to attend university and study medicine. In her application essay she wrote: "It is my dream to establish a medical centre that will care for the less privileged..." She's been volunteering at a local hospital and she's a member of Peer Health Educators Club and a "malaria champion" in her community. She begins her studies in November.

N'tuma chose to study at the University of Sierra Leone's Faculty of Nursing in the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences. She had already completed two years of school when offered her a scholarship.
